Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on August 24 1972 at Long Beach California. DuVernay learned to love the arts from the aunt Denise. Aunt Denise, who worked night shifts as a nurse, let her pursue art literature and the theater during daylight hours. DuVernay was captivated by the 1961 film West Side Story after her aunt showed her to DuVernay. DuVernay was educated by her mother about how the art form could be utilized as a tool for activism. DuVernay developed a social aware through her mother. DuVernay was a child together with her parents in Compton and spent her summers in Lowndes County Alabama in the house of her father's family. DuVernay's father remembered watching the Civil Rights movement's historic march over the Edmund Pettus Bridge, in the nearby town of Selma Alabama. The summers DuVernay spent there inspired her later to write a script for a film based on The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as the Civil Rights Movement. DuVernay completed Saint Joseph High School at Lakewood, California in 1990. Following graduation, she attended an institution called the University of California Los Angeles which she graduated with qualifications in English as well as African American studies. DuVernay developed an interest in journalistic broadcasting while in school. Her first job was as an intern with CBS News during the O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay recalled being given the responsibility of looking over the home and looking through the waste of one of members of the jury. Her work left her dissatisfied in journalism, so she decided to move towards the industry of public relations. DuVernay was immediately hired from college to be an assistant publicist in the studio that was small. The DuVernay Agency is her first public relations agency. The agency was the first to launch a variety of promotional and lifestyle networks that include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
