Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25, 1994, is an American retired gymnast who was an artistic. She was a two-time Olympian. She was the captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, who were winners in their respective teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she was awarded gold medals in floor and team competitions, and also the bronze medal for the balance beam, making her the most accomplished American gymnast in the Games. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she won a gold medal in the team event, making her and teammate Gabby Douglas the only Americans to have back-toback team gold medals. Raisman was also awarded silver medals in the individual all-around as well as the floor exercise. Raisman received silver medals for the individual all-around, and also for the floor exercise. She was also an Olympic champion twice on the floor exercise (2012 and 2015) and the 2012 national champion on the balance beam, as well as five times a medallist in the all-around event at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2011, 2012, and in 2015, bronze in 2010, 2011, and). She was inducted into The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high-school gymnast and Rick Raisman. Her younger siblings are Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish and states that "I really enjoy having the opportunity to not only be a representative of the U.S.A but also the Jewish Community everywhere." "Raisman began gymnastics when she was eighteen months old. She credits her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's team which won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8, then transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was trained by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year online and was training for the Olympics.
