ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born on July 2nd, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. She was raised by her parents in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan played a variety of sports as a kid, but only started to play soccer when she was 14. Morgan joined the Cypress Elite club team and came first in the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. In addition, she placed third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to hone her skills in soccer in Diamond Bar High School. National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She also played for regional and state divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her career in soccer at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scorer from the beginning of her season. She was instrumental in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice in the second round. Morgan was one of the four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. This was the first time she was one of the Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed as the top player on the list. Morgan completed her studies in 2010 with the third highest number of points and goals for Berkeley. Morgan was a soccer player at both the collegiate and national levels throughout her education. Morgan suffered an injury to her ACL her first year with Berkeley. The injury prevented her from participating in U.S. women's under-20 soccer until April 2008. In the following season Morgan scored her first goal for the international team in the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. Morgan was also a part of the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup where she scored four goals and getting her team a gold medal, among other accolades.Morgan was later absorbed into the national team's senior squad, in which she was substituted and scored a number of crucial goals. One of them was a win goal against Italy, which brought the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player of the team, and he led the team to victory over France. Morgan was the youngest player on the team, and was the one who led them to victory over Japan.
