Maureen O'Hara Biography

Maureen O'Hara was a renowned American performer and actress of Irish origin. The fiery, passionate characters she played in a myriad of American films were loved by the green-eyed beauty with flaming hair and flaming eyes. Her glamour and beauty were highly praised. Her name was also known as the Queen Of Technicolor in Hollywood. Her portrayals onscreen were a reflection of her strong, brave spirit. She was determined to be recognized and survival within an era of male dominance. She always described herself as the "tough Irish lass" who was never willing to compromise her respect and reputation to be able to play the roles she was entitled to through merit. She stood up for injustices and unfair treatment of female actors during her film career and gained many followers. Her autobiography, "Tis herself", published in 2004 gave an open account of her entire life including her struggles to climb the ladder to achieve success. She was an adventurous woman who didn't hesitate in carrying out her own stunts. In the course of her career she appeared in over 60 films and gained lots of attention throughout the world. Following her departure from Parra, she remarried again in the year 1968 to Charles F. Blair Jr. who was a brigadier in the past and chief pilot and an early pioneer in transatlantic aviation, to name just a few of her accomplishments. O'Hara retired just a few years after the couple's marriage. However, her happiness was not long-lasting because Blair was killed in a fatal plane crash in the year 1978. She was diagnosed with uterine cancer the same year. She was treated for it and then had an immediate operation. She was able to recover. Her health began to decline throughout her life and she was later diagnosed with six heart attacks as well as short-term memory loss and diabetes mellitus type 2. On 24 October 2015, O'Hara passed away peacefully in Boise, Idaho, from natural causes at the age of 95.
